Travel With Care is Visit Idaho’s ongoing initiative focused on promoting the respectful use and stewardship of Idaho’s outdoor spaces. The program’s message is simple yet powerful: whether you’re exploring public lands, hiking trails or enjoying Idaho’s scenic byways, your actions matter. By caring for these spaces, travelers help preserve them for future generations to enjoy.

Travel With Care reaches beyond outdoor enthusiasts, inviting the entire Visit Idaho audience to adopt responsible travel practices. Built on three core pillars—Care for Idaho, Care for Yourself and Care for Others—this initiative takes a holistic approach to preserving the land, protecting visitors and residents, and fostering a welcoming a friendly environment throughout the state.

Currently, Visit Idaho hosts an annual volunteer activity and encourages tourism partners to hold their own community events and initiatives, like site cleanups, trail maintenance and other similar efforts.

This program is a resource for all regions and businesses across Idaho, providing adaptable tools to fit your community’s needs. By aligning with Travel With Care, partners not only contribute to the program’s growth but also help foster a culture of care and respect statewide.

Recreate Responsibly is an initiative focused on ensuring that outdoor recreation is safe, accessible, inclusive and sustainable for everyone. In Idaho, this year-round program is a collaborative effort between Visit Idaho, Idaho State Parks & Recreation, Idaho Department of Fish & Game, Idaho Department of Lands, Idaho Bureau of Land Management, USDA Forest Service Intermountain Region, USDA Forest Service Northern Region, National Park Service, Idaho Rangeland Resource Commission, Idaho Firewise, Idaho State ATV Association and Idaho Sportsmen. Together, the group aims to educate and inspire responsible behavior on Idaho’s public lands and waterways.

Whether you’re hiking a scenic trail, fishing in Idaho’s pristine waters or exploring vast public lands, the Recreate Responsibly program provides guidance to help all travelers minimize their impact while maximizing their enjoyment. By following its principles, both in- and out-of-state visitors can help preserve Idaho’s natural treasures for future generations.

Recreate Responsibly is more than a set of guidelines—it’s a call to action for individuals, communities, and organizations to take an active role in caring for Idaho’s outdoor spaces. With a focus on safety, inclusivity, and sustainability, the program supports a shared commitment to protecting the places that make Idaho extraordinary.
